This flowering shrub, sometimes referred to as the 'Lily of the Valley Shrub' is part of the Ericacae family and is native to eastern Asia and Japan. The flowers are in full bloom at the moment in the Holkham Walled Garden on several shrubs reaching 10ft high and several feet across, quite a spectacle.
The plant is poisonous to people and animals and honey made from bees visiting this plant is known as 'mad honey'. The medical details are too awful to write here, they will put you off your toast and honey for breakfast, best click on the University of Pennsylvania Website for the gruesome facts.
